Research Interest

My research interest lies in the realm of bio-inspired robots and their application within the medical domain. Through many years of research, I’ve come to recognize a critical gap in Vietnam’s robotic field, particularly in its multidisciplinary integration. Therefore, I hope to broaden my knowledge in surgical robotics, a field I perceive as pivotal for advancing safe, precise, and efficient medical procedures. The key question in my research is how can robots and surgeons collaborate in the most efficient way. By addressing this fundamental question, I aim to spearhead the development of an innovative surgical robot tailored specifically to the needs of Vietnam.

Research Interest

My research aims to integrate single-cell spatiotemporal data with extensive population genomics to identify causal links between DNA variants, gene expression, and diseases. Utilizing machine learning to analyze complex sequencing and imaging data, I reconstruct regulatory networks within cells and tissues. This research strives to improve early disease diagnosis, targeted drug discovery, and precision medicine.

My research interest revolves around leveraging big data analytics in biotechnology to innovate healthcare solutions, especially in the field of oncology. With an acute focus on integrating AI methodologies with biomarker identification, my goal is to contribute to the advancement of personalized medicine and cancer treatment. Through my research, I intend to push the boundaries of how data-driven healthcare can improve patient outcomes, by utilizing the predictive potential of biomarkers in conjunction with AI to offer insights into oncology.

In the field of Medical AI, I focus on applying advanced techniques like object detection and segmentation to medical imaging, improving diagnostic accuracy and automating analysis processes. Research Interest

As a bilingual individual with a background in mathematics and computer science, I’ve always been drawn to the field of Natural Language Processing. My fascination with “pre-historic” NLP technologies, such as Google Translate and Grammarly, sparked my initial interest in understanding natural languages through the lens of computers. Building on the research foundation I gathered at UMD, Skoltech, Samsung AI Center, and VinAI Research, I am particularly excited about advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs). Specifically, my main research interests lie in understanding LLMs (interpretability, explainability, uncertainty estimation) and making them more accessible to researchers and engineers (model compression/optimization, multilingual models, and improving transfer learning for downstream tasks).

Research Interest

During my undergraduate study, my research primarily focused on synthesizing graphene-based catalysts, metals, and metal oxide nanocomposites for various applications such as photodegradation of organic pollutants, energy storage, colorimetric detection, and antimicrobial activity. It is incontrovertible that the overexploitation of non-renewable energy sources has become an urgent phenomenon in many countries. Consequently, this has also accelerated the discovery of novel and eco-friendly nanomaterials, which are considered potential solutions to the current environmental and energy crises. Intrigued by these circumstances, in my future graduate study, I aim to delve deeper into the fundamentals and mechanisms of photo- and electro-heterogeneous catalytic systems. My goal is to develop innovative materials that can efficiently serve various purposes, including energy storage and fuel production.

Research Interest

With a solid foundation in Computer Science, I am captivated by the potential of autonomous vehicles and the sophisticated algorithms that drive them. My primary focus is on advancing reinforcement learning and computer vision techniques to equip autonomous vehicles with the capabilities needed to navigate the complex and unpredictable conditions of Vietnamese roads. I aim to develop systems that enable these vehicles to learn and adapt in real time, effectively handling the challenges posed by dense traffic, and erratic movements of motorbikes, pedestrians, and other vehicles. Additionally, I am interested in enhancing the resilience of autonomous vehicles against evolving adversarial threats, such as deceptive road signs or concealed obstacles. This involves creating robust detection algorithms that maintain accurate situational awareness and ensure safe decision-making in potentially deceptive environments.

I have been interested in sustainable energy research and have conducted research on CO2 heating and cooling systems, combustion and vanadium redox flow batteries. During my graduate studies, I aspire to pursue research in electrochemistry and materials science, preferably electrode materials in lithium batteries. I aim to develop materials to overcome common obstacles of lithium batteries due to slow ion movement at the interface of the anode, sluggish diffusion of ions through solid-state materials, and rapid electroreduction reaction rates.

I lead a working group at the ORC lab (Nagasaki University, Japan) conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses to consolidate published RCTs and inform health interventions. I also collaborate with the IHME Global Burden of Disease (Washington, US), the largest and most thorough endeavor to measure health loss across places and over time, to improve health systems and eliminate inequities.

Having lost my father to cancer, I am aware of the urgent need for effective and accurate diagnostic methods in Vietnam. This personal experience has inspired my aspiration to develop a biosensor using liquid biopsy samples for cancer detection. My research interests focus on structural analysis and structural health monitoring. We employ various non-destructive methods to assess and ensure the safety of structures. This work involves proposing new designs and methods to enhance structural quality. My recent research involves using ultrasonic levitation techniques to evaluate the properties of hydrogels, while my previous research explored enhancing strain sensitivity and the linear range of strain in K-tape wearable sensors using kirigami designs.

Research Interest

My research interest lies at the intersection of machine learning, signal processing and digital design. I am eager to deepen my understanding of computer architecture, principles of computation, FPGA and hardware acceleration. My objective is to develop cutting-edge solutions for efficient deployments of deep neural networks and real-time signal processing on edge devices. This involves optimizing the hardware-software integration to enhance computational and power efficiency. Furthermore, I am particularly dedicated to applying my knowledge to develop and improve Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) for autonomous vehicles.

Ph.D. student, Biological and Biomedical Sciences, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Research Interest

With a strong background in genetics, I am interested in understanding the genetic causes and molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. In particular, I want to research how and why diseased neurons die, biomarkers for earlier and more reliable diagnosis, and the potential of neuroregeneration. A better understanding of the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration will be important for developing more effectively therapy for these diseases, which are an increasing burden for aging populations including Vietnam. I am prepared to pursue my research interests in a variety of environments, both academia and industry.
