About

The Vingroup Science and Technology Scholarship Program for Overseas Study for Doctoral Degrees (the ‘Scholarship Program’) was established by Vingroup with a mission to find talents and provide them with rewarding opportunities so that they can lead and advance the development of science and technology in Vietnam in the future. The Scholarship Program is managed and administered by VinUniversity.
Applicants will need to apply for the Vingroup Scholarship before applying for admission to study in AY 2026/27.
From Cohort 2026, the Scholarship Program only accepts applications for Doctoral Degrees.

Scholarship support

The Vingroup Scholarship Program will cost share with the host institutions to cover the following expenses for the scholars during their degree programs:
  • Tuition and miscellaneous fees
  • Living stipend
  • Health insurance
  • Allowances
  • Visa application fee

Students will also join a network of Vingroup Scholars and get access to information on the professional development opportunities.

Supported universities and academic fields/ research areas

IMPORTANT: Applicants must intend to pursue graduate degree programs offered by only the targeted universities in selected fields of study or research areas. See the lists below for details.

Eligibility criteria

Vietnamese Nationality

Being a Vietnamese who is living, studying and working in Vietnam or overseas; who has talents, resilience and commitment to contributing to the development of science and technology of Vietnam and to the country’s common causes.

Age

Not over 35 at the start date of the intended Ph.D. degree program.

Educational Background

Having an education background that matches or relates to the intended fields of study. College graduate with at least a Bachelor’s degree or college juniors (3rd or 4th year) or seniors (final year students), who will graduate with such a degree by their departure to start the intended graduate courses overseas.

GPA

Grade Point Average (GPA) of the undergraduate degree in the relevant programs must be at least 8/10 or equivalent.

English Language Requirement

– TOEFL iBT: At least 79. The TOEFL certificate must still be valid at the scholarship application deadline.

– IELTS Academic: At least IELTS 6.5 overall. The IELTS certificate must still be valid at the scholarship application deadline.

– Degree from an English-speaking country: Applicants who are studying or have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree from one of the following English-speaking countries do NOT need to submit the IELTS or TOEFL certificate. The countries include Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, the United States, or the United Kingdom (Britain, Ireland, Scotland or Wales).

Diplomas and academic transcripts

Must be translated and notarized into English if the language of presentation in the original documents is not English.

Proof of English language proficiency

IELTS Academic or TOEFL iBT certificate or an undergraduate/master’s degree from an English-speaking country

Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation/reference from the applicant’s professors/lecturers under whom the applicant has studied or pursued research related to his/her proposed field of study, or from supervisors, who have supervised the applicant’s work related to his/her proposed field of study. The letters of recommendation must meet the following criteria:
– Must be written in English
– Must have the letterhead and the signature of the referee

Letter of motivation

A letter of motivation written in English and does not exceed 1,500 words. The essay demonstrates the ability, aspiration, creativity, and commitment to contributing to the development of science and technology in Vietnam.

Curriculum Vitae

A curriculum vitae (CV) in English that outlines the educational background and research experience;

All the scholarship recipients must abide by all regulations and requirements of the Program, or else the scholarship will be revoked. The Program reserves the right to change the terms and conditions when necessary. Any changes will ONLY be posted on the Program’s official website.. Changes, if any, will only affect scholarship holders who have not signed the Scholarship Agreement with the Vingroup Scholarship Program.

Reintegration support

In order to complete an overall and comprehensive investment process in the science and technology human resources in Vietnam, the Program will support scholarship recipients throughout their study and provide them with regular updates on employment opportunities, internships, and research projects in Vietnam. This support scheme ensures that the awarded students will be able to optimize their intellectual capability in an overseas university environment while staying connected with the Vietnamese settings.

The goal of the Program is that 100% of students after graduation and return to Vietnam will be able to quickly re-integrate, have suitable jobs with deserving remuneration package to optimize their talents and capabilities to lead and advance the development of science and technology in Vietnam.

Scholarship conditions

Applicants must fully meet the application requirements of the Scholarship as well as have a letter of admission from a targeted university listed above to study a supported academic field. Applicants must also meet the health requirements through a General Health Check Program before commencing their studies and be issued a valid visa to study the program overseas.

During the study program, applicants must meet the minimum academic requirements determined by the program as well as report their academic performance and research progress periodically to the Scholarship Program.
