VinUniversity launches partnership with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD)

VinUniversity and the University of California, San Diego have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formalizing the collaboration between two universities, one in Vietnam and the other in the U.S. A joint-commitment to support Vingroup Scholars pursuing graduate degree programs at UCSD via a cost-sharing arrangement is the first concrete step of our collaboration. This coming Fall, Vingroup will send its first Ph.D. Scholar to study at UCSD who will then be supported by both Vingroup and UCSD throughout his program. This act of commitment sets the foundation for future cooperation opportunities between VinUni and UCSD.

I’m very impressed with the strong, aggressive, optimistic goals of VinUniversity. And I feel that UC San Diego is a little bit like VinUniversity because UC San Diego is very young and in a short time, we have gone from 68 in the ranking all the way to 11. We compete with schools that are 80 years older than us so we see VinUniversity as another young university who’s rising very quickly. So it’s natural that we would have an affiliation. And I think that there are many programs at UC San Diego, especially in the Jacobs School of Engineering, that is very applicable to the Vingroup – VinUni, especially those in robotics, AI, cellphones, telecommunications, electrical engineering, and computer science.
